Casting has a long history of application. Ancient people used castings to make and some living utensils. In modern times, castings are mainly used as blanks of machine parts, and some precision castings can also be directly used as parts of machines. Castings occupy a large proportion in mechanical products, such as tractors, casting weight accounts for about 50 ~ 70% of the weight of the whole machine, agricultural machinery accounted for 40 ~ 70%, machine tools, internal combustion engines and so on up to 70 ~ 90%. Among all kinds of castings, the mechanical castings have the largest variety, the most complex shape, and the largest amount, accounting for about 60% of the total production of castings. Secondly, it is the ingot mold for metallurgy and the pipeline for engineering, as well as some tools in life.
Castings are also closely related to daily life. For example, frequently used doorknobs, door locks, radiators, water pipes, iron POTS, gas stove racks, irons, etc., are castings.
